Inspired by Islamic architecture and human vulnerability, Toronto-based ceramic artist Habiba El-Sayed uses a variety of materials, performance and temporal techniques to illustrate her concepts. Her work focuses on connecting to, exploring and interpreting aspects of her identity. El-Sayed has exhibited and spoken on panels across North America. She recently completed a 3 year residency at the Harbourfront Centre in ceramics and holds an Advanced Diploma from Sheridan College in Ceramics (2014) and a BFA in Ceramics from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (2016).
Over the last 5 years, El-Sayed has been teaching pottery classes across the GTA and leading workshops in Canada and the US. Teaching has been a grounding element of her practice, keeping her connected to traditional ways of making. She is passionate about her students' growth and prides herself on creating an encouraging but realistic learning environment.
